Summary: -Opal Bulioni, a local ten year old girl, has just moved to this new town in Florida and is very lonely. One day when she went into the town's grocery store she found a dog. She names the dog Winn-Dixie, and after she meets this delightful creature she becomes friends with people all over town. She meets interesting characters like Miss Franny Block and Gloria Dump- people who are not necessarily the most likely of friends, but prove to be the best ones for Opal.

Extension Activities:
-Have you ever moved into a new town? If so was your experiences anything like Opal's was in the beginning? If not have you ever experienced something new but nerve racking? Write a page reflection on it.
-Draw a picture of what you saw all the characters in your head to be like.
-Make a character diagram and have all the children fill it out. Make there be character analysis including descriptions and questions about them. Reflect on what you thought of all the characters.
