Summary: This is a great story a bout a little baby and a dog, Carl, who takes teh baby on adventures while the mother is away. At teh beginning of the book, the dog is instructed to take good care of the baby. While the mother is gone, Carl explores the park with the baby. They go on the mary-go-round, smell flowers, eat ice cream, swing on the swings and pet the animals at the petting zoo. Carl takes the baby on adventures but makes sure that the baby is always safe and sound when the mother returns. It is as if non of their adventures happened that day.
Extension Activity: For this extension the kids will get in groups of four and share a story with eachother about a time they were put in charge of taking care of someone younger than them. They need ot make sure they are taking turns talking and not interrupting eachother.
