At first, Oliver is scared and shy, but as he becomes more curious, Oliver and Marshmallow eventually become friends. The owner, Miss Tilly, wrote a few poems to accompany and describe the lives of Oliver and Marshmallow. The illustrations are done in what looks like charcoal, with occasional splashes of color.

Extension Activities: -
--Students will create either a cat puppet or a rabbit puppet. These puppets will be used to act out or "talk out" the poems found within the story.
--Students will create their own story about 2 animals that meet for the first time. The story should describe the first reactions of the animals, the process the animals go through to learn about one another, and the final relationship that does or does not develop between the two.
