Summary: - The Bleriot family is sitting at their table in 1901 in Cambrai France. They all take a ride in their nice new car to town. When they get to town they crash into a wagon owned by Alphonse Juvet. While everyone was fighting about the crash an airship flew over the town. Louis Bleriot was the only one not happy about seeing this. He wanted to make his own flying machine. He did many trials with objects he thought would fly. He finally makes a real aeroplane. His family is so proud of him. There is a prize for the first person to fly across the English Channel. He starts the engine and starts to fly up over the Channel. it took him thirty-six minutes to get over the Channel.


Extension Activities: - Have the children construct an airplane that can coast through the air with popsicle sticks, glue and many colors.
