Extension Activities: -
--Students can brainstorm other common idioms that they have heard or use. With these ideas, the students should each make one or two pages for a classroom “Idiom Dictionary.” Each page would consist of the idiom, a sentence with the idiom used, a picture describing the literal translation of the sentence, and finally the figurative definition of what the idiom means. While this activity is most suited for middle to upper elementary students, younger students can participate in a discussion about the idioms used in everyday language. Students should still be able to brainstorm several phrases that contain idioms, and these could even be turned into an idiom dictionary by collectively creating definitions.
