Summary: This would be a good book to read during black history month. Rosa is about Rosa Parks. It goes through the life of Rosa Parks on the day that she stayed seated on the bus. It starts out with her getting ready for work. She goes to work and leaves early because she has a headache and so she can take care of her sick mother. She gets on the bus and sits in the neutral section. The bus driver tells her to move and she sits still. In a poise matter she sits still and stands her ground. Even when the bus driver calls the police she stays still. Her friends and family rallied together to boycott the bus. And her heroic efforts were recognized by thousands and thousands of Americans. It talks about her mom and husband and what they did that day. It is a great book for younger children learning about history.
Extension Activities:
During Black History Month the kids can do a research project on famous African Americans. Make a poster about who they are, what they did to be famous etc. The whole class can look at all the posters and see how all these people made huge changes for America.
